Golden Bowerbird bower with his lichen and flower arrangements. Endemic to the Atherton Tablelands rainforest in altitudes above 700m is the Golden Bowerbird, Prionodura
newtoniana. Although the smallest bowerbird in Australia, the male of this species builds the largest bower, an
elaborate U-shaped bower, which he decorates with lichens and tiny white flowers. This bower serves as his
seduction lair – singing his distinct song to attract his less flamboyant female.
