Purple Swamphen (Porphyrio porphyrio) in the wetlands of Muloorina Station near Lake Eyre South. This This chicken-sized bird, with its huge feet, bright plumage and red bill with frontal shield is also known as the African Purple Swamphen, Purple Moorhen, Purple Gallinule, Pūkeko or Purple Coot. Water in Muloorina Station waterhole comes from a flowing artesian bore near the banks of the Frome Creek. This homestead bore has fresh water attracting bird life, and station stock watering from it all year round.
